Half-way Through

Hola everyone!
Lets see...Its Wednesday, July 8 2010. Roughly, I have about 2weeks left here in Argentina.
Its really hard to believe that I am halfway through my trip here. But seeing as this week has been full of parcials (midterms), I have the proof.

Everything here is so much different than I had anticipated. I almost wish I were staying longer, just so that I could acclimate better, and more fully, to the way of life here. The way the people live there lives here is almost opposite of the way in the States.

For example, I had to catch a bus at 6am for our journey to Buenos Aires last weekend. I was going to walk to the meeting point, about 15min away, but my mother wouldn't let me because at 6am, it is dangerous for a single woman to walk alone on the streets. Yet, it is safe for me to walk around alone at 10pm. It is nearly the opposite in the US, in that, I'd start being careful walking alone at 10pm, yet feel perfectly fine at 6am. Its dangerous because at 6am, all the young people are leaving the bars and boliches intoxicated. At 6am!!! Craziness.

This begs the discussion of the sleep pattern of the Argentine people, which I don't understand. I'm exhausted at 11pm. Yet they wait till 2am to go out and party. How do they survive? As well, hey eat alot of dulce de leche, which it really sweet, for breakfast. And the give it to the ninos all the time. One of my professors said that when it comes to sweets, they know its bad for the teeth, but they don't make the connection between sweets and hyper-ness, (which I appreciate..)

But, I am still being responsible. But thats probably because I have been on the cranky side and have been having to put up with some incorrigible Americans. But, most of them will be gone this weekend, so hurray! As well, it is a three-day weekend! Finally! Five-day weeks have been killing me!
